Kyoko Kusakabe is a professor at Gender and Development Studies, School of Environment, Resources and Development, Asian Institute of Technology. Her research area is on gender and labor migration and women in the informal economy. She was a visiting professor at Science Po, France in 2012; Member of the Issue-specific Supporting Committee on Development and Gender of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) (2013-2016); Member of the Program Oversight Panel for the CGIAR Research Program on Aquatic Agricultural Systems (2011-2016); and Associate editor of Gender, Technology, and Development Journal (since 2001). She has co-authored Thailand’s Hidden Workforce: Burmese Migrant Women Factory Workers (2012, Zed Books) with Ruth Pearson, edited Gender, road and mobility in Asia (2012, Practical Action Publishing), and co-edited Gender and land tenure in the context of disaster in Asia (2015, Springer); Gender, mobilities, and livelihood transformations: Comparing indigenous people in China, Laos, and India (2014, Routledge).
